Exhibition story

Entering Kirnu’s magnificent architecture, you will find it is worth exploring its inner secrets. A gorge-like passage, a reminder of ravines found in Lapland, leads you through a peaceful visual, illuminated and aural experience, disconnecting you from the hectic Expo environment.

When entering the exhibition, you will find the story turns magical. In contrast to the pureness of form, spaces and details in Kirnu, the inside astounds everyone by opening up a deep insight into the elements of Finland. Applied with high technology and a creative visual space, the physical outer wall is transformed to a fantastic living showcase of the messages of Finland at Expo 2010. The immersive world contains the elements of well-being, competence and environment, but the unparalleled visual world created by means of animation, images and storytelling surpasses anything-but-usual experience with ease. The core elements which make a balanced, sustainable and enjoyable future urban-oriented life possible and worth reaching for are presented in many aspects.

The Story extends through the exhibition’s three spaces: the welcoming area introduces some key essences of Finland as well as the Virtual Guide.  The Virtual Guide is also a reference to the Spirit of Finland, who will accompany the guest and enlighten many aspects of the Story together with the hosts and hostesses along the exhibition. The second area opens breathtaking and beautiful views and perspectives which are keenly attached to the foundations of Finland; deep connection with nature, national character, the social, cultural, economic and educational environment transformed to a virtual world with close connections to reality. The third area caters out the City of Dreams;  an interactive and beautiful presentation of subjects that Finland expresses as elements of Better Life, as well as solutions and perspectives we want to share with others striving for a well-balanced and sustainable future.

There is no text in the visual story and it is completely free of verbal commentary. The composed soundscapes, unforgettable and interactive animation together with short occasional shows, presented by the hosts and hostesses on the stage, enables the guests to enjoy the experience at their own pace. Our charming hosts and hostesses will discuss any presented or given subject any time with the guests in several languages.

Without forgetting the children and young minded, special treats have been integrated to the exhibition, for the adventurers to find. Also, one should not forget where Santa Claus and Sauna come from.

The architecture of the exhibition is committed to functional and clean design, letting the presented art, design, technology and colors breathe freely and joyfully. Finnish design as physical objects, materials and high technology has been selected to represent the fresh approach especially for future trends. The connection to classics is clearly present, but the creativity, sustainability, quality and intentional longevity play an important part in the presented subjects. The exhibition includes well-known players in global mobile communication as well as technically incredible, artistic and joyful showcases. There will also be three visual image interfaces to deepen the experience. Rising the look, one encounters one of the largest textile artworks made for the exhibition in the world.  The exhibition space contains snow-cave and cloudlike textile structures allowing both liveliness and peace, depending on the use of lights. The floor is made of best-quality Finnish hardwood accompanying the guest in every step. At the end of the exhibition, and before taking the farewell walkway back down, the guests may make a comment on the Kirnu Guestbook or through the website later.
