Finnish Participation
Finnish participation was decided on in January 2007. Financing will mainly come from the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, whereas FINPRO has been designated to plan and implement the project. It is vital for the success of this event that the private business community also actively participates in the project.
The theme of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai China, “Better City, Better Life”, is one of the most apt themes in the history of world expositions. Urbanization, in addition to population ageing, globalisation and climate change, presents huge challenges for all the countries in the world.
Taking Asia as an example,
estimates put the amount of people living in cities by 2050 to one third of the
whole population - that is about 3.5 billion people. This creates considerable
pressures to apply new technologies and innovations, especially in decreasing
the burden on the environment.
Finland is ready and willing to introduce innovative solutions for cities in the context of the Expo 2010 and beyond. We know how to use energy efficiently and save it everywhere. We create technologies that change how people connect and interact with each other. We build our success on the human capital that is increasingly important in tomorrow’s world.
Through its Expo 2010 participation Finland wants to advance its cooperation with China. The prospects for our Chinese partners to increase their presence in Finland are promising. We offer all possible help in this process.
